Thanks for starting your application to Outer Coast! We’re excited to learn more about you and your interest in joining us as part of the inaugural 2024-2025 undergraduate cohort.

We — the students and staff of the Outer Coast Applications Committee (AppComm) — want to hear from you, in your own voice, about what matters to you and why you are interested in Outer Coast. Keep in mind that there are no right answers to these questions. We invite you to share openly about yourself and your experiences.

What does Outer Coast ask of you? A lot. But Outer Coast is not hard for the sake of being hard, and students' time in Sitka should be as exhilarating as it is challenging. That said, much is required at Outer Coast: departure from familiar surroundings, support structures, and day-to-day habits; fast-paced, intellectually rigorous academic coursework; consistent engagement in significant work-based service and labor on campus and in Sitka; intensive community involvement and self-governance of key elements of the Outer Coast experience; and ongoing self-examination and a commitment to growth. All of which can be gratifying, monotonous, exuberant, and excruciating.

As a reminder, Outer Coast admissions are need-blind. Outer Coast will meet all demonstrated financial need.

2025-2026 academic year: July 2025 - May 2026

Eligibility

High school seniors and graduates (or GED holders) who have not yet completed a postsecondary degree are eligible for the 2024-2025 undergraduate cohort.

We are currently not able to sponsor visas or enroll international students at Outer Coast, but we are working towards being able to do so soon. If you’re interested in learning more about our progress, please be in touch at info@outercoast.org.

Application Process

The application remains open and submitted applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. 

If you filled out the pre-application questionnaire, you will still need to complete the full application in its entirety. Finalists for admission to the inaugural Outer Coast undergraduate cohort will be invited to complete an interview as part of their application.
