Thanks for starting your application to Outer Coast! We’re excited to learn more about you and your interest in the Summer Seminar.

We — the students and staff on the Outer Coast Applications Committee (AppComm) — want to hear from you, in your own voice, about what matters to you and why. Keep in mind that there are no right answers to these questions. We invite you to share honestly and genuinely about yourself and your experiences.

As a reminder, Outer Coast admissions are need-blind. Outer Coast will meet all demonstrated financial need.

Eligibility

Current high school sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply for the Summer Seminar, as well as graduating seniors from Alaska.

International students are eligible for the Outer Coast Summer Seminar as well and should be able to gain entry into the United States on a tourist visa. For more questions about visas, reach out to appcomm@outercoast.org.

Application Process

The Summer Seminar application process consists of a written application and may also include an interview. All applications are reviewed thoroughly and holistically by the joint student-staffulty Applications Committee (AppComm). 

The written application includes a number of short-answer questions and one essay question. We also ask for a high school transcript and at least one recommendation from a teacher. The written application is intended to give applicants the opportunity to demonstrate their interest in Outer Coast, their preparedness academically and socially for the Outer Coast community, and their ability to persevere through challenges.

After submitting the written application, applicants may be invited to an interview with 2-3 members of AppComm. AppComm aims to create a welcoming environment during the interview, in which the main goal is to learn more about the applicant and their interest in joining the Outer Coast community. Applicants may bring any and all questions they have about Outer Coast to the interview in addition to the questions AppComm members will have for applicants. 

Summer Seminar applicants must complete the written application in full by March 1, 2024 at 11:59pm AKST to be considered for the Summer Seminar 2024. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Applicants will receive decisions by early April 2024.
