Office of Academic Enrichment & Center for Academic Equity Summer Research Opportunities | Summer 2024

Thank you for your interest in Summer Research opportunities with Newcomb-Tulane College. This is an application for the following opportunities: Summer Research Institute on Racial Equity, ASPIRE Research Buddy Program, and Summer Research Program. You can apply to all of these programs or only one of them. Learn more about each program at the links below.

Summer Research Institute on Racial Equity (website)
  • Program Dates: May 20 - June 14, 2024 (4-weeks)
  • Description: During the 4-week summer institute, research fellows work full-time on their original research projects. This program is designed for students who have never conducted research before and are interested in gaining new skills. Participants will engage in weekly didactic sessions with faculty lectures and guest speakers, meet one-on-one with the faculty director, learn about the graduate school application process, and engage in readings both in their field and on the craft of research.
  • Application Requirements: 3 short answer questions, no recommendation required
  • Program Benefits:
    • Free On-Campus Housing
    • Creation of an independent research project/paper
ASPIRE Research Buddy Program (website)
  • Program Dates: June 3 - July 26, 2024 (8-weeks)
  • Description: The ASPIRE Research Buddy Program provides Newcomb-Tulane College students with 8-weeks of mentored research at the Tulane University School of Medicine. Once selected, students are paired with medical school students and faculty mentors within Tulane Medical School's ASPIRE Program, allowing for a triad mentorship learning experience. This program is designed for students interested in medical school and are classified as "underrepresented in medicine."
  • Application Requirements: 3 short answer questions, no recommendation required
  • Program Benefits:
    • Free On-Campus Housing and Meal Plan
    • Biweekly Didactic Sessions with guest presenters
    • Training in proper research techniques and laboratory etiquette from current medical students
Summer Research Program (website)
  • Program Dates: June 3 - July 26, 2024 (8-weeks)
  • Description: The Summer Research Program is an opportunity for students to work with a Tulane professor on a scholarly project during the summer. It is great for all students interested in research, regardless of their experience. This program is designed for students who have already identified a research opportunity at Tulane for the summer.
  • Application Requirements: 2 short answer questions, Budget Worksheet, Letter of Recommendation
  • Program Benefits:
    • up to $3,000 grant for housing and research materials
    • Weekly Didactic Sessions

Eligibility Critiera: To be eligible for consideration you must be an NTC undergraduate student. All majors and classifications are welcome to apply.
