We are excited to announce our new camp programming for the 2024 summer camp season.
NEW THIS YEAR our coaches will be introducing the Vaulting Canada programming to our program. Children will work on our vaulting barrels from Monday - Thursday and will then be able to take their skills to one of our skilled school horses on Friday.
Vaulting is the performance of gymnastic and dance-like movements to music on a moving horse.
The horse is controlled by a lunger who sends him in a circle around them on the end of a lunge line which is attached to the bridle the horse wears on his head. The horse also wears a special surcingle around his belly which has hand grips and stirrup-like loops for the vaulter’s feet. Vaulters begin working in walk and progress, with training from a qualified instructor, to be able to execute fantastic freestyle performances in the canter. Vaulters learn to have the agility and athleticism of gymnasts, the grace and expression of dancers and the balance and feel of equestrians.
Please note: Helmets are not permitted while vaulting. However, approved protective headgear is required at all times when riding (for example, but not limited to, during warm up, exercise, or schooling.)
An exciting change to this years programing is our longer, more focused riding time. Instead of two 30-minute lessons, each camper will have one 1-hour long lesson every day.
In keeping with the Daisy Meadows Equestrian, Equestrian Canada (EC) Rider Level program, all of our camp counselors will possess at minimum their EC Rider Level 3, all instructors will possess at minimum their EC Rider Level 6. We feel that the EC model of horesmanship, riding and stable management produces well rounded equestrians and strive to capture this spirit in our summer camp programming.
Back this year is our Parent Pizza Party Day! Friday’s will consist of a pizza party lunch for all campers, and parents will be invited to watch a special musical ride performance put on by the campers. Campers will then have the opportunity to give their parents a barn tour and introduce them to their horses.
